I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Steven Gan, a young benevolent man, for receiving the International Press Freedom Award from the New-York based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

I believe I speak on behalf of all mothers who strive hard and relentlessly to advocate to their children basic human rights and principles, that you, Steven Gan, are deserving of this award for your stouthearted resoluteness in championing freedom of speech, expression and the press.

We would like to share the pride that your parents and family feel for you at the moment and would like to also congratulate your parents for bringing up a valorously responsible son who has done not only themselves but also the citizens of Malaysia proud.

We feel that this award is by far more significant and noble than the usual press awards that our local mainstream journalists are content with in this country. The CPJ award carries with it international recognition for the commitment and passion of a fellow human's conscious responsibility towards what is true and right.

"The salvation of this human world lies nowhere else than in the human heart, in the human power to reflect, in human meekness and human responsibility." - Vaclav Havel

The exemplary journalistic ethics in reporting the truth without fear or favor by credible and professional journalists who conceive their jobs as a labour of love which is powered by the heart, has restored our faith and hope for a freer flow of expression and information in our country.

Mothers4Humanity applaud you and your entire Malaysiakini team for your combined invaluable efforts in inspiring the opinions and voices of the people.

We sincerely hope that you and your team will continue to strive with enduring rectitude and courage to express the voice of dissent of the majority, no matter who they champion.

'In a democracy, dissent is an act of faith. Like medicine, the test of its value is not in its taste, but its effects.'
