I refer to the malaysiakini letter Have you really been fair Pak Lah . I, too, do not mean to be disrespectful but truly, I beg the same question, 'Have you really, really been fair, Pak Lah?'

Pak Lah, only a handful of us are Francis Yeohs, Vincent Tans or Lim Goh Tongs. A vast majority of Chinese are Yeoh Ah Kows, Tan Ah Gus and Lim Ah Ngiaus. We are ordinary, poor Chinese who walk on the street. We have been struggling hard to raise our family all these years.

Do you know why most of us resort to a one-child policy or maximum of two children? This is because our whole life savings can only afford to send one child overseas to further his or her studies. Even so, not all of us are lucky enough to be able to do that. It is worse because the majority of our children can't enter the local universities even though they may have better results than their other fellow students. The quota system - sound familiar?

Sometimes, we need to resort to borrowing money from loan sharks (Ah Longs). This is not because we gamble but are there other choices made available to us? No discounts, no subsidies. By the way, why has everyone has put the blame on Ah Longs? Do they have a choice? They, too, long to have a licence to carry out a proper business. But business licences are not issued to them. Goodness knows why.

We were tired of the past 22 years and we thought Pak Lah could change our fate but, how sad, that was not true. We have been deceived yet again. It was all rhetoric, no action. Now, we long for a government and a leader who is sincere in helping the poor regardless of race.

I believe, the opposition (PAS, Keadilan and DAP) is willing to do that just for us, the common folk, the ordinary people.
