Let it happen naturally
Columnist James Wong Wing On is right: Many students in Chinese schools also excel in Bahasa Malaysia ([[#1]Chinese education advantage in Malaysia[/#], Dec 6). My daughter, for example, scored a distinction for Bahasa Malaysia in her SPM examination although she was educated in Chinese schools. She also speaks reasonably fluent English. She has many Malay and Indian friends too.
I really do not see any substance in BN politicians' rhetoric that Chinese education is "divisive", "communist" or "anti-integration". Although I do not feel greatly insulted, I think they should know things better before they open their mouths.
I think national integration should not be forced or imposed by threats or insults. It should be a natural process through which people just learn at their own pace to treat others as human beings. What we really need now is a Vision Party like Keadilan where every race is allowed to join and lead as equals, to work for a common cause.
Adults should set examples for children. It is time the really divisive Umno, MCA and MIC be dissolved. We need Malaysian parties who think Malaysian.
