Uncivil service
I would like to narrate two instances of very unfriendly counter service at the Immigration Department and Road Transport Department of Seremban.
On the morning of Dec 5 at the Immigration Department, I observed an old man who had for some reason missed his turn when his number was called over the digital call system earlier. When he enquired at the counters, he was ignored and shooed away, finally ending up having to get a new number at the end of the morning's queue.
I don't think anyone in the hall would have minded if he had been served, since he had been waiting the whole morning with an early number but had missed his turn, being illiterate and probably ignorant of the digital call system. The counter clerks were very unfriendly to this old and illiterate man, and were very inflexible and arrogant in their attitude.
Then on the morning of Dec 7 at the information counter of the Seremban JPJ, I observed the male counter clerk performing his duty with a most unfriendly and sullen face, merely dishing out application forms and queuing numbers to those in line, ignoring their questions and refusing to answer those who sought clarification.
Such a sickening and arrogant staff should not be posted to the information counter. He should not be working here if he is not interested in his job.
The attitudes displayed will only serve to deepen the public's mistrust of the civil service.
