I have always been troubled by the continuing communalism in Malaysian politics. For a long time I almost gave up hope of ever seeing Malaysians divorcing themselves from the narrower prejudices of our environment and times.

Racial chauvinism had always been the ultimate fallback whenever doubts turn to fears. They run subtle but true in the mind sets of most of us.

It clouds our judgement, corrupts our intellect and worst of all, it remains the most exploited vehicle for politicians to sell their useless wares.

Then came Dr Mahathir! Corruption that destroys our society with no regard to racial boundaries. Uncontrollable greed that permeates through the ranks of multiracial cronies.

He insults everyone who does not agree with him, irrespective of race. He exemplifies the true persona which this country needs in order for all of us to look at each other and realise that we cry the same tears and bleed the same red blood when hurt and attacked.

There has been no one in the course of our short history who has managed to raise into prominence our similarities as humans and fellow Malaysians.

Dr Mahathir is truly the Father of Malaysian Unity, albeit by default!
