Mail to UM disappearing
We are puzzled over the matter of disappearing postal mail to Universiti Malaya. In our line, we frequently have to send mail to UM staff
We were alerted to this matter when someone in UM who was supposed to receive a mail from us failed to get it. It then struck us that UM's internal mail collection and delivery system was faulty.
This person decided to investigate and was shocked to discover that the UM personnel in charge of collecting and re-distributing mail dispose all mail coming in A4 size envelopes - this without even reading the address labels on them!
Apparently, they do this because they assume all such envelopes are material from direct-selling companies and are thus classified junk mail. What?
Mail in smaller size envelopes are not thrown away as 'they may contain cheques'. This is unbelievable if true and we certainly hope that the UM authorities can confirm or deny if this is indeed their procedure.
