Such is the political game in Malaysia, where a non-issue is twisted to become an issue, where irresponsible politicians, young and old alike, play up issues that would fire up the sentiments of their supporters, especially ex-supporters.

The game has become increasingly critical as the "prostitutes" of Umno like the Federation of Malay Peninsular Students (GPMS) join in the fray in the name of protecting the constitution. Sadly, they had chosen to blindly follow the blind, disregarding doing their own research as to whether their leaders' claims are substantiated or not.

In view of all this, I strongly urge that Suqiu give in and withdraw their appeals. There is no point continuing the fight for the appeals as you are on the losing side. Even if everything has been clarified, the appeals would simply be thrown into the waste bin. The lessons learnt here are that:

1) The so-called Chinese party in Barisan will not come into aid of the Chinese even if Umno assaulted the Chinese associations. The party can't protect them as it has too much to lose. And to get to where it is, and get our votes, it would promise us everything.

2) No association should produce any election appeals because they would only get empty promises.

It is all right for Suqiu to give in. It is dealing with a lose-lose situation. Moreover, it is Umno's scapegoat to fire up nationalistic feelings in the supporters they lost after the Anwar Ibrahim debacle.

Do remember, the way to change is not through further action or appeals, but through the ballot box, expected in three years to come. The people in Lunas have shown that it can be done. In the next election, BN can be taught a lesson by the people.
