The recent hacking of several local websites came as a shock. But what's more shocking is to find Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad using the incident to take a cheap shot at the opposition.

Mahathir claimed that the hacking was the work of people who want to censor the news, the same people who accuse the government of doing the same. With the opposition crying foul over biased reporting for the past year, it's quite clear who he's trying to sling mud at.

The hackers left a message in Brazillian and the authorities are still investigating and trying to determine if the attack came from overseas. But our prime minister has once again short-circuited both due process and logic, and pointed his finger at the opposition before the authorities had any clue of what was going on.

Plus, I wonder what exactly the kind of "news" the hacked sites were providing that the hackers were trying to censor? Heck, was there news there at all in the first place?

And while accusing the hackers of censoring the news, both the prime minister and the mainstream media completely censored one major aspect - the possibility that the incident was made possible because of inadequate security in the first place!
