Better-equipped fishermen ahead
I think the problem in the inability of Malays to catch fish does not only stop at learning to fish with the rod given to them, as the river or pond has only so many fish and only the Indian and Chinese know how to fish.
However, globalisation would mean more capable fishermen coming to our pond or river to fish, with better and bigger rods, some even with harpoons or boats. Then all these existing small-scale fishermen would suffocate.
Remember those big ships that docked on our shores three to four years back and cashed out our fishes?
Better act now than being sorry later. Remove the barrier internally, make it a level playing field amongst all races, and get everyone ready.
My fear is that if this is not done now it would be too late and all the Ali, Ah Kow and Samy would be starving in this global economy.
