I read Mohd Iqbal's letter and felt the anger in his heart ([#1] 'Ketuanan Melayu' is historical [/#] Feb 8). I wonder what sparked off so much ill-feeling toward the other races of Malaysia? How do he and others who feel so strongly about Malay supremacy in this land go about their daily life whilst in contact with other races daily? Pardon my ignorant and innocent questions because these are similar questions asked today of the Aryan race who swore supremacy over Europe during Hitler's time.

It is sad when one looks at race and feels an advantage or disadvantage over another race. It is all the more sad when that happens in Malaysia. I know this thought is very much ingrained in our older leaders and it is the very reason why bangsa Malaysia will always be a mirage under the present ruling government.

I think the heroes of Malaysia are jailed former deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim, his wife and Keadilan president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and their children, DAP vice-chair Lim Guan Eng and family, Keadilan vice-president Tian Chua who bears the bruises of injustice, Keadilan Youth chief Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor and Keadilan youth leader Gopalakrishnan. Their names should be mentioned with honour because they are willing to sacrifice and suffer for what they believe. They are Malaysians who in my mind are standing up against tyranny, oppression and injustice.

I have followed the Anwar's policies while he was in office and remember his work among the hardcore poor. He advocated policies that were not in favour of just poor Malays but also all poor Malaysians. To him I salute. Perhaps this is why he had no place in Umno, for his is a dream bigger than Barisan Nasional.

Lastly, I must say that there is a huge difference between the Chinese kongsi and collaboration to provide services to customers versus cronyism in government. One is good business strategy and the other lacks integrity and if the writer still does not see the difference between the two, then there is nothing more to say.
