May I voice my support for Information Ministry Parliamentary Secretary Senator Zainuddin Maidin in his efforts to ensure the credibility of Malaysia's media. He is reported today as saying that reporters would be barred from covering government press conferences if their credibility was doubtful.

To ensure credibility, may I suggest that a thorough review be undertaken whereby the source of funds for all newspapers and electronic media be scrutinised. Once root of possible sources of bias has been determined, let steps be taken to de-couple editorial policy with any conflict of interest or interference with editorial independence. We must not compromise the freedom of editors to pursue the truth without fear or favour!
