I am writing in response to Mohd Iqbal's letter, [#1] 'Ketuanan Melayu' is historical[/#] . Why should we Malaysians choose to identify ourselves based on who our forefathers were instead of who we are?

Do we really want to be judged by what our forefathers did? If a person was a crook, should we also shun his children?

This is why Suqiu asked for a system that will judge us based on who we are and not who our forefathers were. Suqiu is asking for a system that is fair to all and does not favour one over the other based on the colour of the skin or the God that one worships.

What is wrong with this request? And mind you this was merely a request, not an uncompromising demand.

The writer also said: "... the Chinese are ever so willing to trade their good business ethics for bad by offering to fish for the Malays.

There are a few apt sayings to describe this, i.e., "It takes two to tango" or "You can't clap with one hand".

The "Ali Baba" syndrome is the result of bad implementation of a noble cause. We all know what the root of the problem is, but the question is, are we willing to deal with it ?

If you want to be successful in economics, you will just have to play by its rules.
