I am one of the fortunate Malays who are benefiting from the New Economic Policy and am now in my final year in one of the best universities in the United Kingdom. As a student studying abroad, I welcome this website as it is one of the few that reports news that is fair and not hypocritical.

Since it is important that we remain in touch with the news back home as well as the general view of the people, your website is providing me with exactly the type of articles that I have been looking for.

I am neither a straight supporter nor a critic of the government due to my immense dislike of politics. However, I am still interested in the local affairs as I love my country and will be living in Malaysia for the rest of my life. Given the current state of politics, I realise that Malaysia has more than her fair share of problems with the Malay disunity, cronyism, corruption and special Malay rights issue plaguing the nation.

But then I realise, what country doesn't have problems? It only takes a short glance at the world news bulletin to realise that we are at least fortunate to be living peacefully despite our multiracial and multireligious community. I know this may sound like a cliche, but I feel that it is nevertheless still an important point. Yes, we have our problems. When will the problems end? When will everyone be happy? Will everyone truly be happy? I doubt it very much.

As a Muslim, I believe that the only way people can live in a fair and unjust world is through the Islamic system. However, I understand why the idea scares off everyone (including the Malays themselves, myself included). Obviously the idea is scary, seeing that there is no current model of a successful Islamic state. With the US being the major world power, all countries, Malaysia included, have turned to democracy and capitalism as the way of life,. There are many examples to show that these systems are not working, and will never be able to address global issues like poverty and corruption. The reason is simple: because anything man-made will never be perfect.

So what is the perfect system, and will it be able to make everyone happy? Until we can find the answer to this question, we will never be able to solve the problems. Cronyism, corruption, nepotism, poverty, etc., they will never end. All we can do is find a way to reduce or control them, but the fact of life remains that they will never be eliminated.

Until then, we're not doing so bad as a country, are we? OK, I guess that question still remains debatable...
