I write in response to Beatrice Thio's letter, [#1] Can post offices really handle it? [/#] (Feb 17). I would agree with the writer that the service at most post offices is not up to customer expectations most of the time. I have encountered slow, inefficient, rude, sour-faced, and even racially-motivated personnel. But to give due credit to those few (very few) personnel who are indeed very sincere and hard-working, I would not negatively generalise the situation.

I wish to record here, an encounter with a personnel at the IOI Mall post office in Puchong, who dismissed all my previous negative impressions. She is polite, friendly, efficient and has a very commendable service attitude.

I was particularly impressed with her patience in handling an old lady who was not proficient in Bahasa Melayu. She even tried to utter a few Cantonese to help the poor lady. Eventually, she sought help from me to explain the matter at hand to the lady. Through it all, she never appeared to be impatient or frustrated. I am sure there are a few personnel like her around or, at least, I sincerely hope so.
