If it is true that someone who allegedly shot another man over a parking space dispute is being set free on bail, then something is gravely and seriously wrong with our judicial system ([#1] Murder suspect's bail extended again [/#], Feb 18).

I am sure many are now questioning the wisdom of the Attorney-General's chambers, as reported, in allowing a bail of RM100,000 for the suspect.

I am glad that a senior minister in the government has commented on the matter, as this concerns public safety. As long as the implementation of the law is being perceived by the rakyat as being double standard, one for the rich and one for the poor, any initiative taken by the government to gain the confidence of the people, will and can be a losing battle.

I, personally, want the government to do something to allay my fears, as well as those of the public, that such an incident will not happen again. This can be done by telling the people that stern action has been taken to correct any perceived miscarriage of justice.

Well done, Rais Yatim, for being responsible enough to comment on the matter. His action befits a minister who now acts as a sentinel on the judicial system that should be looking after the interest of the people. How I wish more ministers are as daring as he.
