Why are the politicians in this country oblivious to the fact that there are major problems in the Malaysian judiciary ([#1] Former AG, now Federal judge, urged to clear name [/#], Feb 18)? It is no use just investigating newly-appointed Federal Court judge Mohtar Abdullah and splashing his photograph on the web pages with the prominent businessman and his lawyer.

Is our memory so short that not too long ago we were discussing the impropriety of the then chief justice holidaying with the same prominent Malaysian lawyer, whom he claimed to have met by chance in New Zealand?

The call to the present Attorney-General's chambers should also be to conduct a full investigations on the allegations made in the Bowman papers against the former chief justice and probably a full review of the cases decided by him and his cronies. The Anti-Corruption Agency has not closed the file for reasons best known to them so perhaps now is the time to pursue the matter further.

The present chief justice has acknowledged that there is a serious erosion of public confidence in the judiciary. He has only two years before he goes into retirement, what has he positively done to date to restore public confidence in the judiciary? I am afraid the answer is nothing.
