Steel our youth against unwanted influences
When anything bad happens in Malaysia, be it financial losses or social ills, the easiest scapegoat would be the foreigners.
Most recently, Bollywood shows are being blamed for the increase in social ills. While it may be true that there are unhealthy influences in present-day movies, be it Bollywood, Hollywood or 'Hongkiwood', I sincerely believe what is of prime importance is - what is our government doing in:
1) Providing positive counselling for our youth to face the changing values that come with social development;
2) Providing healthy places of recreation for our youth e.g. sports centres, libraries/reading rooms (especially in the kampung ) and crafts/hobbies centres;
3) Realigning our educational focus; what can be done for the youth who are not academically inclined but are good with other skills? Can we build more vocational centres for them?
Much can be done but it takes time, focus and money to put all into action.
If megaprojects can move forward in the fifth gear, I sincerely believe that if all of us work towards helping the needy youth with generosity and love, they can learn to stand tall in the face of unhealthy influences.
