I read with amusement the Democratic Action Party's outburst over its ex-members joining other component parties of the Barisan Alternatif ([#1] Keadilan luring our members: Penang DAP [/#], Feb 26). In a democracy, it is the right of any individual to join any political party. If a person becomes disillusioned with DAP, surely that person has the right to switch to another political party of his or her choice. This is democracy.

If the DAP as an opposition party cannot tolerate dissenting views and trys to cripple those who disagree with the view of its leadership, I shudder to think what it will resort to if it comes to power.

It is high time the DAP leadership learn the true meaning of democracy and put it into practice. Otherwise change the party's name to Despotic Action Party. Perhaps secretary-general Kerk Kim Hock would care to explain the rationale of his outburst to Malaysians like me who find it hard to comprehend.
