I wish to offer my comments and suggestion to Kamal Sahar Jamli, the aggrieved condominium buyer in the report [#1] Developer shortchanging us on refund: Condo buyer [/#] (Feb 28).
The Directors of Taiping Consolidated Bhd made a decision to develop Sentul Raya condo and make a lot of money in the process. If not for the Southeast Asian currency crisis, the project indeed would have taken off well and by now the board would be patting itself on its back and making press statements about "how brilliant their business acumen was to enter the condo market at the right time etc...."
But unfortunately, the currency crisis did occur and their decision on Sentul Raya turned out to be a bad one and now there is an element of loss to be incurred. The question is who should bear this loss?
Well the common sense answer any lay person would agree to is that the developer should bear the burden of the loss. Why? Because in business no one (with the exception of our national cronies) enjoys the 'boon of immortality'.
The rule of the game is: If you make a mistake, you pay for it; if you make a very bad mistake you die for it.
I would suggest that Kamal set up a website dedicated to bring together other condo buyers of the Sentul Raya project. I believe you can get free hosting for your website. Although such a move involves a small outlay of money and a considerable bit of time, by any reasoning the effort will certainly be worth it.
Good luck, Kamal! Don't allow these guys to take you for a ride. Taiping Consolidated is rich enough to fully compensate you and others like you.
They are simply trying luck with you.
