I do not understand the fuss surrounding the Taliban's destruction of the world's tallest Buddha statues in Afghanistan. The Afghanistan people are Muslims and Islam forbids idols. So, it is within the right of the Afghans to destroy these idols, since it is a requirement of their faith.

If certain countries feel that these statues are valuable, then they should buy them off the Talibans and relocate them elsewhere. Unfortunately, they are not willing to do this, but merely heap scorn on the Taliban government.

I do not understand why these statues should be preserved. All it does is remind us of the folly of our ancestors who falsely believe that carving stones into human forms will improve their life.

There are other things better worth saving. Scientists, for example, have warned us that many species of frogs are on the verge of extinction, including vital ones that contain antibiotics and painkillers as well as potential cures for future illnesses that may strike humanity.

So, let us stop this fuss about the Talibans blasting statues. I also suspect this matter is being given out-of-proportion attention by the Western media to justify the cruel sanctions imposed upon the starving and malnourished Afghans.
