I refer to the Malaysiakini report Anti-ISA vigil dispersed with water cannon .
Let there be an independent inquiry or a tribunal set up to review the behaviour of the police who fire tear gas and other types of weapons to disperse peaceful gatherings and be tried in a court of law.
With all due respect, the police are the ‘guards’ of the government which the people elected. That, though, doesn’t give them the right to beat the very people who elected them to safeguard their security - especially the elderly and women folk.
Many indications show the police have become a reflection of the dirty politics that exist in this country much like the Gestapo (Hitler’s secret police). As such, it is the right of the people to choose and elect the party to at least bring back some form of justice to Malaysia.
The Lingam tape scandal is another blow to the judiciary in this country. What happened to the important separation of powers in this country, a legacy of the British colonialists?
Its no use for the ‘rakyat’ to elect a government which deprives Malaysian citizens of their human rights and invokes the ISA. That’s how the present government of Malaysia has treated the Indians, the elderly and women. This was clearly seen by the beatings they received during the recent Hindraf protest at Batu Caves.
Even Mahatma Gandhi’s picture was trampled upon by the police. It’s time the people woke up.
The spirit of our Merdeka is being eroded by the corruption that’s growing so rapidly. We should ensure that the minorities are safeguarded in someway before they are extinct.
