I feel robbed. Robbed of my place in this country. The Indian community has, since Independence, been a reliable and consistent Barisan Nasional supporter. The same government has let us down by failing to act faster and protect us from the violent clashes, resulting in deaths, injuries and untold misery to many. Why stop at 400 or even 600 policemen? Why not mobilise a thousand at a moment's notice? Why was there no curfew? How many deaths does it take to impose one? What happened to the police intelligence unit? Did they not see the signs?

I am under no illusion that only one party is responsible for the carnage, but I am also clear of the fact that the casualty statistics tells something about the nature of the situation.

I am also wondering how concrete houses are supposed to pacify bereaved families? Is this some form of formulae the government has stumbled upon? You climb Himalaya, you get a house. You are shot and killed by cultists who stole weapons from an army camp, your grieving family get a house. You are murdered on the way back from work because you are at the wrong place at the wrong time, your grieving family get a house.

It's all about a low-cost house. You can buy a keling with a low-cost house.

Tell us no more the stories of a peaceful nation with friendly people. We will forever remain the ' keling ' of this nation, disrespected and easily dismissed, even in death. Just give us a low-cost house and we will forget and accept our lot.
