With reference to the letter [#1] Intellect that amounts to nothing [/#] (April 4) by TY Lee, let's not judge A Serving Umno Youth Bureau Member's actions (past or future) by simply doing an easy equation of "Umno = blah blah" and lumping him together with it.

History has proven that in order to survive, even the most blatant organisations like the Russia Communist Party or other leftist groups in Eastern Europe especially, have reformed themselves in order to be accepted by the masses. So let's give Umno a chance to do that (reform).

Being a practical man myself, my philosophy in life is to achieve my goals without making a lot of unnecessary noise, provided that no selling-out of my basic principles is involved. But I do understand that sometimes, one doesn't have much choice but to publicise the matter to the people. I believe that is also the basis for PRM president Dr Syed Husin Ali or DAP chairperson Lim Kit Siang's underlying actions or publicity.

With regard to ASUYBM's letter ([#2] The other side of the Mahafiraun II [/#], March 28), I too agree with the points laid down by the writer. I too would like to see the results of that (no matter how limited the actions or effects may be) from no other person than the writer himself. But let's restrain ourselves from personally attacking the writer because of his post or relation to Umno. Also give the writer a chance to follow up on the points he had clearly stated in his letter. Only then can we judge if the writer is a true to his words or a hypocrite.

In the meantime, let us criticise ourselves, and if we can find ideas or ways that could help people like the writer, Syed Husin or Kit Siang so that any of them could be a more effective politician, let's do that.

So now the ball is back in ASUYBM's court.

Don't just talk pointlessly; let's see some result, shall we?
