I refer to the letter Why is Anwar in such a hurry?

I share the sentiments of the writer ad other regarding the latest development that BR's de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is allegedly soliciting defectors BN specifically those who were bypassed for PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's new cabinet or who were not chosen to head the various state governments.

If these reports have any truth at all, they are disturbing in three ways: firstly, why is BR

accepting riff-raff from BN who are willing to betray their erstwhile parties at the drop of a hat? What prevents them from jumping back to BN’s embrace if circumstance reverse in the future?

Those politicians who jump ship after winning elections strike me as opportunistic, unprincipled and power hungry. They view politics only as a mean to amass power and enrich themselves. PKR should be more discerning in admitting defectors into their fold. Otherwise, they will be infected by the same kind of people that infest BN. God forbid, one BN is enough.

Anyone who joins PKR should be expressly told that they will have to prove their worth by working from the ground up before being entrusted with greater responsibilities. This should discourage any political adventurer from joining political parties for the wrong reasons.

Secondly, under our present parliamentary system, people vote for the party rather than personality. Therefore, it makes sense to nullify the election result in the event of a winning candidate defecting to another party. This will benefit both BN and BR. Furthermore, allowing defections is equivalent to subverting the people’s wishes and makes a mockery of the democratic institution.

Thirdly, why is Anwar Ibrahim in such a hurry to topple the existing government before he even manages to get his own coalition in order? The various states governments have barely got their feet wet and they now thinking of forming the next federal government? It would be more prudent and advisable for them to learn to walk before they attempt to run.

The only person in BR who has any experience in running the federal government is Anwar Ibrahim himself. It does not bode well for the country if only one person in the entire cabinet has any idea of running the country.

Under such circumstances, it is very easy for the cabinet to degenerate into a rerun of Dr Mahathir Mohamad's one-man show. I think we all know how that turned out the last time.
