The objective is prevention
I am really angered by Steve Oh and Eva Ibrahim's letters, [#1] Outdated, dehumanising practice [/#] and [#2] Let's not cut off anyone's hand [/#] and so are many other Muslims like me.
While I support malaysiakini for being an alternative and non-biased information source, I really do not agree to the website allowing opinions that are disturbing and sensitive to Muslims, such as those of the writers, to be voiced out in the open.
The lesson behind the hudud punishment for theft is for people to refrain from stealing anything if they treasure their hands. That's the simple preventive law of Islam yet both writers chose to only see that many people lost their hands because of the 'barbaric' law and not because they steal people's belongings.
Open our minds and stop relying on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's version of hudud.
Lastly, may Allah forgive Eva Ibrahim and open her heart and mind.
