I read with great sympathy and shame about what Francesca Yuen had to go through and what has become to our justice system. ([#1] Doctors closing ranks[/#] , April 13).

I may not know the full story for it was never reported in the media.

The justice system in Malaysia appears to be corrupted in almost all areas. And this is not new. It has been going on for many years and will continue to go on for many more years to come if nothing is done about it.

Even though the writer's case is just a tribunal, she was never given a fair chance to present her case. Was it because there was really a case against the surgeon in question and they were trying to protect him? If not why are they trying to make it difficult for the complainant?

If this is an example of what can happen if a person makes a complaint, it is no wonder that not many complaints are made, even if the government keeps reminding us that there are avenues for them.

But as long as the complaints are ignored, not investigated properly and/or the hearing is not conducted without prejudice, everything will end up in vain anyway.

Justice must not only be done. It must also be seen to be done.
