Repugnant, but still a voice
Inasmuch as I disagree with the opinions of My Voice who wrote [#1] Stop the trouble-makers! [/#] (April 23), I have to say that malaysiakini is doing the right thing in publishing obnoxious pieces like our friend's from Melaka. I submit that Fed-up of KL ([#2] Jangan siarkan surat sebegini! [/#], April 24) is incorrect to want to silence opinions such as My Voice's.
The duty of an independent press is to provide impartial information, lest it be accused of doctoring the news. Now that last task, we can leave to the mainstream media, as they are already doing an excellent job in the 'yes-men' department.
In silencing thoughts repugnant to us, we behave no differently from the social imperialists who seek to demonise all that which challenges the security of their illegal share in the Malaysian economic pie.
Let those who have brains think! We should never presume to think for others.
Lastly, if My Voice is not a political coward, as I may mistakenly suspect him/her to be, I urge him/her to speak with a real name in future.
