With the present controversy lingering on with the 'poor' standard of judgment meted out especially with cases involving the opposition, I think we have a moral lesson to learn from the Pakistan judiciary, specifically, the former chief justice Saeeduzaman Siddiqui for refusing to take his oath of loyalty to the military ruler after the coup in 1999.

Here is a man of principles who immediately tendered his resignation rather than dance to the tune of the military ruler. The chief justice stood to lose a lot in terms of monetary benefits, but yet he resigned on moral grounds, together with 14 judges of supreme and high courts.

Even the politically-tainted cases of Benazir Bhutto have been ordered for retrial with the military still in power.

I pray that the almighty God will instill some sense and morality on some of our judiciary officials and bring back the old glorious days of our judicial system when the rakyat could hold their heads high and were proud of the high standards then.
