According to Insaf Dulu, who defended Dr Kassim Ahmad for supporting the Internal Security Act ('Penalty OK, but not wrongful punishment', April 28), the former leader of the now defunct Malaysian socialist party made it clear that his ISA arrest was a vendetta by individual Umno leaders who had an axe to grind when Ghazali Shafie was Home Affairs Minister.

The same applies to the 10 recent ISA detainees, with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad playing the 'backdrop influence' role (Home Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi claimed he had no knowledge of the initial arrests). And this is still the ISA we are talking about.
