Correct me if I am wrong, but the Prophet Ibrahim stood at an important fork in the monotheistic family tree. It was from him that we got the Arab and Jewish branches that we have today.

His son Ismail begot the Arab race, which is why the Arabs are sometimes called 'Ismailites' in Orientalist texts. Another son, Ishak (or Isaac), in turn begot Yaakub (Jacob), father of the Jews.

This is why it is most ironic that today such strife should exist between the two races, who are practically cousins. And I believe this bitter rivalry also goes some way towards explaining the discrepancy in the Quran and the Bible on who was to be sacrificed by the Prophet Ibrahim.

Is there any wonder that in the Quran - which came to the Arabs - the son was Ismail, while in the Bible - which was given to Jesus, who is a Jew - it was Ishak?
