I refer to the Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's announcement on May 6 that the university quota system may be abolished ('University quotas for races may be abolished: Dr M', May 6). As a lifetime Umno member, I'm calling other Umno members to unreservedly and wholeheartedly support this proposition.

This issue has been bothering us for far too long every time we face our ground supporters. Getting rid this ancient ruling is surely one positive step in the right direction. I wish - and perhaps it is also the wish of many other loyal Umno supporters - that the PM could go one step further by also abolishing the bumiputra and non-bumiputra distinction, for we're all Malaysians.
