I wish to reply to True Malaysian's letter entitled 'Don't bother with ISA hunger strike' (May 12). For the record, the hunger strike was not organised by the opposition parties, but a group of non-governmental organisations who are very concerned about the human rights of the people as stipulated in Clause 5 of the Federal Constitution (i.e. no one is to be arrested more than 24 hours unless he is charged in a court of law and that every one is innocent unless proven guilty).

I do not know how True Malaysian came to the conclusion that the 10 detainees are traitors to the country when no court had delivered any judgment on them.

The hunger strikers are not fighting for the opposition or for ex-deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim. They are just concerned citizens who realised that this draconian law can be used on anyone later on if it is not abolished now. That was what happened to Pak Din (the son of a former policeman) who has no political inclination.
