I was greatly dismayed at Dr Mahathir Mohamad's statement that the university quota for races favouring bumiputras may be abolished. Is Mahathir trying to evoke racial tension (judging from the resulting controversy and opposing views from all sides)?

People should not fall into Mahathir's 'trap'. As a bumiputra, I believe that the quota must stay to assist bumiputra students to help them catch up with friends from other races.

I'd like to ask - how many Malays can afford a place in private colleges (the other 'alternative' to public universities)? Unlike others who can afford to attend expensive private colleges, bumiputras can't.

I sincerely hope that this quota is adhered to, and our friends from other races can understand the rationale behind the quota system. The Malays have lost so much under Mahathir, do not let him inflict more harm on, and further insult the Malays.
