There seems to be an obsession in the letters and the columns of your site against the government. It is almost on the verge of paranoia at times. But I was very glad to read the letter of J Allen Otten ('Write, not disrupt your way to change', May 15) - an extremely level-headed approach that was suggested.

However, there will be all those who will say - oh that cannot work here and blah blah blah. But the 'alternative' of demonstrations and potential violence is not an alternative at all.

The tendency seems to be to imitate the violence in some neighbouring countries. But again the problem is that we do not have the same problems like those of our neighbours. The issue of daily survival is absent in Malaysia. We are still comfortable where our basic needs are concerned, unlike those of our troubled neighbours. But that point is totally wasted on our people that suddenly have this overwhelming urge to condemn our prime minister and the government.

The problem is that most people in Malaysia who complain and condemn the government do it because it seems to be fashionable to do so. These people have no idea what they want except to blame the government for everything that is wrong. Then you have cowards like Not Empty You Will See ('Malaysian elite a castrated lot', May 15) who condemn others and themselves hide behind the anonymity of the Internet.

In the midst of this sea of misguided sense of 'right' it is refreshing to see the J Allen's letter. To all of you out there who have nothing else to do except condemn the government, please start thinking rationally and take constructive steps. How many of you want to live in chaos? Disruption is not the answer.
