Too little, too late, unless...
It is too late for Dr Mahathir Mohamad to realise that Barisan Nasional has alienated the Chinese community ('PM aware Chinese support vital, says former Tunku's aide', May 17). It is not enough for Dr Mahathir to try and rectify it by merely appointing a Chinese personal assistant and a Chinese press secretary unless he does the following:
1) Apologise unreservedly in all the different language media for the crude and ill-mannered remark he made on Merdeka Day last year likening the action of Chinese lobby group Suqiu and the Chinese who support it to those of the "communists" and "Al-Ma'unah";
2) Release all ISA detainees;
3) Accept the Chinese community's demand to restore SJK (Cina) Damansara;
4) Clean up the mess in the conspiracies against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and apologise to him and his wife, children and family.
Unless all the four conditions are met by Dr Mahathir, my family and I will continue to vote even for PAS.
