When Prophet Muhammad regained control of Mecca the only idols he destroyed were those being put at the places of worship which was originally Muslims'. The non-Muslims, upon the temporary departure of Muhammad and his followers to Medina, had taken advantage of the situation by unjustly erecting statues of their worship on places that had always been identified as Muslim.

It's like a Buddhist temple or a church which was abandoned temporarily and all of the sudden the site is used for the purpose of worship of another religion. Surely this would earn the followers' wrath?

The Babri mosque at Ayodhya was demolished by Hindu fanatics in India, even though it was in very ancient times that the mosque was a Hindu temple.

Prophet Muhammad successfully made landmark agreements with the Christians and Jews and peoples of faiths other than Islam, who resided in Mecca. There was relative peace among the people then.

Also, once Omar the Caliph invited the Christians back to Jerusalem after the Jews had cruelly forced them out of there. There was peace there as the Christians was welcomed back to contribute to the administration - and Jews were never forced out of Jerusalem.

These are examples that most PAS leaders wish to follow and perhaps HF ('Ploy or not, there's no denying PAS' goals', May 18) should not get all worked up PAS' supposed intentions since he has only taken the wrongly interpreted examples from Prophet Muhammad's times.

Do not be held back by religious prejudice when the major and real issue is justice - and you can be rest assured that these PAS leaders like Ustaz Fadzil Noor And Tok Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat are all very sincere people.

Would you want to put RM20 billion ringgit of Petronas money in the hands of corrupt Umno/Barisan Nasional leaders (as widely known and the tip of which was revealed recently in the suspension of some Umno leaders) or would you rather trust these tok gurus who have only one ultimate spiritual goal for themselves, i.e. to go to heaven when they die after performing their tasks to the best of their ability as responsible leaders for their people/nation?
