Sin Chew needs to chew on the deal
For the first time in my life, I have to criticise in writing, my household newspaper, Sin Chew Jit Poh . I refer to the decision on the part of the daily in not reporting activities and opinions that are against MCA's takeover of Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press . Sin Chew 's decision is said to be based on the argument of 'non-interference' into affairs of rival newspapers.
It is a very wrong and unprofessional decision because Sin Chew only reported on MCA's 'normal business' version of the story, but not the contrarian views. Why only report one version, not the other?
It is terrible to see that while Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press are going to be directly controlled by MCA, Sin Chew is also managed indirectly by pro-MCA elements. There is no more freedom of speech, thought and opinion.
The only way out is, I think, for the Chinese community to reject MCA, Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP) and their master Umno in the coming general elections, so that our freedom and dignity are regained.
