All this recent talk about national interest, transparency, accountability in the privatisation process etc., but the relentless, enrichment of select Umno-associated businessman just seems to continue

What gets me is the article in The Edge this week, where it was reported that an 80 percent stake in The Sweet Water Management Sdn Bhd (a Wan Azmi Wan Hamzah family company) was sold for RM72 million to Gamuda. Sweet Water and awarded a 30-year contract to run the O&M; Company for the Sungai Selangor Phase III Scheme.

Fine, but why was Wan Azmi given this opportunity in the first place? If it was to increase bumiputra participation, then I have a couple of questions.

Firstly, why only to him (isn't he rich enough, or doesn't he have enough on his plate already?) and secondly, why is he being allowed to cash out, for doing virtually nothing?

The Selangor state government claims that it is subsidising the cost of water already to the tune of billions of ringgit, when it recently raised its water tariffs. In my mind, Wan Azmi's good fortune will only result in the consumers in Selangor left with having to pay for his good fortune, and the impending increases in tariffs that would soon follow.

People of Selangor, please wake up from your slumber.

The good people of Umno - please, please address these excesses or be prepared to play the role of the opposition!
