I am surprised to learn of Sin Chew 's open denial of its involvement with the controversial takeover of Nanyang Press Holdings.
Sin Chew said its former staff, including key management personnel, assuming positions in Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press is a personal decision and had nothing to do with the company.
Among those who have moved is Sin Chew 's former chief executive officer PC Liew who has been appointed as chief operations officer of Nanyang Press.
While I agree with Sin Chew that job-hopping is quite common within the Chinese press fraternity, I find it somewhat incredulous that a super senior executive of the company - i.e. CEO - can quit and join a 'traditional' competitor within 24 hours!
I have more questions:
1) Why have so many Sin Chew senior staff resigned recently, some within this week, others within this month, and yet others towards the end of last month?
2) Why is it that there is an ex- Sin Chew staff from every department - accounts, IT, advertising - who has joined Nanyang ?
3) Can a senior officer leave the company within 24 hours after he tenders his resignation?
4) The word in the market is that Sin Chew 's deputy editor Mr Pole Ah Lek will join Nanyang as editor-in-chief. Its executive editor Mr Kouk Chiang Chaing will join China Press as editor-in-chief, and Sin Chew online editor Wong Hui Chong will become China Press executive editor. Let's adopt a wait-and-see policy if such 'coincidences' will come true.
Lastly, to Sin Chew , your readers are not three-year-old children. Do respect them.
