It is deeply distressing to read your breaking news on Sunday of orders to send four human rights defenders, Tian Chua, Hishamuddin Rais, Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor and Saari Sungib to Kamunting ('Tian, Ezam, Saari and Hisham sent to Kamunting', June 3).

This is a reminder to all of us that the government has no conscience in throwing people to the dungeons without an iota of evidence of wrongdoing. Which philosophy or religious belief sanctions such a draconian act, Pak Lah?

Clearly this government has lost its mandate as the people's representative. It does not act on consensus, it refuses to listen to the people, it jails without trial those who dare to identify its weaknesses in governance. It acts on the whims and fancies of one man whose time is up.

Shame on Umno and Barisan Nasional.
