Judge's call was his duty
For crying out loud, Dr Rais Yatim's statements opinion of the Shah Alam High Court judge are "intemperate and scandalous" as they say in contempt of court cases ('Judge's call to review ISA 'uncommon', says Rais', June 3).
We have a case here of a minister throwing a tantrum because the government cannot have its way. Rais expects judges to behave like the legal officers in the AG's chambers-just rubber-stamping the orders of the Executive!
A judge's opinion on whether laws should be reviewed by Parliament is perfectly in keeping with the role of the judiciary to check Parliament. Even more so in a case where Parliament is an extension of the party in power that holds court in the lower house and rules Parliament.
Rais is not only a failed politician, his legal reasoning is suspect as well. I suppose it does not matter as long as he is in Umno where mediocrity rules. In the real world, Rais would not have survived.
