When N Gobalakrishnan alleged that he had been asked questions by the police that had nothing to do with the reason of his detention (which is plotting to overthrow the government), this is clearly an allegation of misuse of power by the police.

In the West, this is definitely a case where the police must stand up to the scrutiny of the public. When Anwar was beaten, he got some justice when the former police chief was convicted.

This is clearly a similar case, where police brutality (by this, I mean incessant questioning without good reason and adequate rest for the prisoner) was alleged to have taken place.

I think there should be an investigation into this matter. If the authority feels that it is above scrutiny, I think the next course of action should be a civil suit for compensation.

Perhaps with the recent developments that boosted the morale of the judiciary regarding its independence, it could be a good time to bring an investigation into police accountability. Maybe the Anti-Corruption Agency would like to take a look at this as well.
