I live in Bangi and normally arrive at my office in Brickfields by 7 am. However yesterday, as I entered KL via the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza, there was a massive jam.

It was around 6.45am at that time. Cars were moving at a slow pace with motorists coming from Bangi, Kajang and from the south getting caught. The jam was nearly 5km from the toll plaza itself.

As I drove, I finally saw the cause of this massive jam. A police road block. Two lanes were closed. What made me angry was no one was manning this road block.

There was a police MPV at the side of the road but two of its personnel were standing at the side of the road busy chitchatting. There were another four rank-and-file staff also busy chatting by the road side.

The question is what is the purpose of this road block? If the excuse given is to conduct security checks, then why was no one manning the road block? As the police personnel were busy talking by the roadside, thousands of motorists had to suffer.

Business meetings had be delayed, appointments had to be cancelled and monetary loss incurred all because of these uncalled for road blocks.

The police are blatantly misusing these road blocks to cause inconveniences to thousands of motorist. KL will certainly not become a world-class city if this kind of attitude goes on.

This is a terrible shame for the police force too ad its personnel are neglecting duty. There are procedures to set up road blocks and at least five personnel must man it.

But here, roads are blocked with the highway lanes being blocked with cones, beacons and signs. But the police personnel are busy chitchatting or sitting around. So what’s the rationale for this ‘road block’?.

Its only wise for the police to stop all this nonsense and get the city moving. Their actions are crippling the city and businesses.

And the police should also beef up on their intelligence-gathering efforts. This is because whatever intelligence reports on purported gatherings of people or planned illegal rallies don’t seem to be true.

The police must take action based on concrete evidence and not simply set up road blocks and cause inconvenience to thousands of motorists.

So far, whatever reasons the police are giving, its seems inadequate and their actions are really unprofessional.
