Mr Ho Mun Wah's "humble opinion [that] the issue [of Nanyang takeover deal]is just being manipulated by some MCA politicians to move against the current leadership" is simply too simplistic, and it belittles the intelligence of most if not all Chinese Malaysians, as well as the majority of fellow Malaysians who happen to be equipped with the minimum mental capacity to think with their own heads ('Nanyang issue exploited', June 20).

First, The Star is a totally different animal from Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press . If one is so-called English-educated, one may never understand this. How many Chinese-educated people read The Star ? How does The Star relate to Chinese culture and a great many other aspects deemed important to Chinese Malaysians?

Second, even without Chua Jui Meng and Lim Ah Lek and other MCA committee members opposing the takeover, the Chinese community will still be against this fishy deal. If the writer cannot understand why, again, perhaps we can only wonder why!

Third, if MCA is embarrassed by the opposing views of some of its leaders, MCA should be embarrassed to be in existence at all. If MCA can't stand the test of opposing views of its leaders, MCA is not worth preserving, and certainly not qualified to represent the Chinese community.

Another point, when proper channels are controlled by improper leaders, what proper channels are left?

Yet another point, the takeover was initially claimed to be strictly a commercial deal, and now it's a strategic political move, my humble question to you is this: Are we all brain-dead?

In the writer's own words, "... as such, I would like to ask for the understanding of [you] to seriously consider" not to think so lowly of the intelligence of the common folks.

However, in my humble opinion, I also recognise that in an age of common sense being rather uncommon, such a simple-minded view can be excused. Heed Apple computer's slogan, '... think different'. And while the writer's at it, think deeper; don't be a pawn so willingly yourself.

If this takeover saga were to take place 20 some years ago, when I was still playing marbles with neighbourhood kids, I'd still be standing tall, on a stool, with those dead against this stinky, fishy, takeover deal. And I wasn't that 'smart' a kid then.
