Sexy singer - learn control else don't watch

I refer to the Malaysiakini report PAS youths slam 'sexy' Indonesian singer.

Typhoons. Floods. Earthquake. War. Hunger. These are just some of the catastrophes befalling people around the world today. Ever helpful, PAS Youth has decided to lend a helping hand. Apparently it's not for a catastrophe but over a female Indonesian singer that I have never heard of, until today.

There was something similar not too long back with Gwen Stefani and many, many more incidents way back. Without a doubt, most males including myself would find Inul Darastita sexually attractive. If I said otherwise, I would be lying.

That being said, would seeing her perform lead me toward crimes, such as rape, for instance? PAS Youth believes so.

Throughout my relatively short time on this planet, I have come across many women whom, like Gwen, I also found sexually attractive. PAS, though, must be surprised when I tell them that up till this point in time (and I can confidently say for the rest of my life) I am not and will never be a serial rapist.

Those in PAS must be scratching their heads in disbelief, wondering how this is indeed possible. The answer is a very simple one.

Feelings of attraction towards someone of the opposite sex (or even the same sex) are an inherent part of the human nature. I am no rocket scientist but I am quite certain that this is how the human population has grown.

However, it doesn't drive me to rape because I am able to control of myself. I have been able to control myself all these years without the slightest bit of effort so I see no reason why I would not be able to control myself until the day I am buried six feet underground.

It has nothing to do with religion and one notes that a large majority of rape cases, happen in the rural areas where education levels are low. I am merely trying to show that there is no correlation between being religious and being moral.

Such misplaced priorities. If PAS finds such petty and inconsequential events to be offensive and questionable, the solution is also a very simple one - don't watch them. On the other hand, if PAS leaders, or anyone else for that matter, feel out of control, then they are a danger not only to themselves but also to society (schoolgirls especially).

They should check themselves into a mental institution immediately. Just because you have no control over yourself, do not assume that everyone is as weak as you.

That is the problem with the fanatically religious. Religion ends up clouding all rational thought in people such as these.

I do not think that it would be too farfetched to say that PAS leaders would like everyone to live by the Quran, simply because they believe that this will lead to a morally upright society.

You only have to look at the state in which this country is in today to see how callous this argument is.

The past and present government of Malaysia today were and is largely made up of Muslims. Not just regular Muslims, but very pious ones (or so we are led to believe). If the above argument held any water, Malaysia today should be a country free of corruption, a country where all Malaysians would be treated equally.

This is obviously untrue as corruption is rampant to the point of being considered a norm, and one can only dream of being the prime minister of the country if born in right womb and killing may very well be a crime for all but the elite.

Again, no correlation between being religious and being moral.

Like gender, religion and ethnicity should never be used as the basis to form policies. Fifty over years of such policies have left Malaysia in the state in which it is today.
