In response to 'Why can't BA communicate?' (June 27), I feel that it is not so much of whether Karpal Singh has jumped the gun in reacting to what Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was reported to have said in her response to the PAS deputy president's stand, i.e. on forging an Islamic state if BA becomes the government.

Most important to a sizeable section of the public is why there is no clear and definite stand and declaration from both Keadilan dan PRM with regard to this issue, as the formation of an Islamic government in Malaysia is currently contrary to the Federal Constitution provisions that guarantee freedom of religion, etc. in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.

It does not help matters that a malaysiakini report quoted Dr Chandra Muzaffar as saying that the "BA manifesto makes no mention of forming an Islamic state ... neither does it promise the formation of a secular state." ('Keadilan denies BA is talking about Islamic state', June 27)

What is this BA manifesto of the last election trying to tell us? Will the powers that be in BA, especially from both Keadilan and PRM, come out with an open declaration of their stand with respect to what the PAS deputy president has said on this issue?

Enlighten us so that we can be a more informed electorate. Keep up with your purported call for 'transparency and accountability', not just a call, I hope, that you only make whenever it conveniently suits you.
