New highway - who's being taken for a ride?
I have a gnawing suspicion that the initial toll rate that's targeted by the sprint highway concessionaire is indeed RM1 and 60 sen for the Kerinchi link and Damansara link respectively.
After putting a high price in the beginning at RM2 and RM1.20 respectively, the operators will appear to relent to government pressure to reduce it. This was what the Kesas highway concessionaire did - it asked for RM1.50 in the beginning but reduced it to RM1 later so that all parties can pretend to feel good about the 'compromise' on everyone's part, though, of course, some feel better about it than others.
And because they have reduced the toll, the tenure of the toll will probably be doubled. My question is, who pays? And who are they taking for a ride?
I'm just a guy on the street but the way I look at it, the powers that be benefitted when they awarded the contract, and again when they 'negotiated' for the reduction in toll. But then again, I could be wrong.
