Honestly, I was disgusted to read about the colossal amount spent by the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang to purchase Britain's costliest house ('Tengku Mahkota Pahang buys Britain's costliest house at RM350 million', July 3). Is the Tengku Mahkota tired of the Malaysia Book of Records that he has set his sights on entering the Guiness Book of World Records?

Just what is wrong with our bureaucrats? How in heaven's name is he financing the purchase? Is Bank Negara aware that funds have been transferred out of Malaysia? How can the government allow such an atrocity to take place?

US$100 million - my God, just imagine the impact on our home economy if this amount was channelled into Malaysia!

How he has earned that colossal amount of money I have no idea. Is there more, too?

But is it really necessary to purchase a 'home' with 30 bedrooms and five swimming pools?

What is the Tengku Mahkota trying to prove anyway? And I wonder what does our Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad have to say about this blatant disregard to the sensitivities of other Malaysians? Or is the Tengku Mahkota immune from criticism because of his status?

Mind you, there are quite a number of us who have lost jobs or are likely to lose jobs in the coming months.
