The Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) Act was duly enacted in the name of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the lower and upper house of Parliament. The Act has empowered the commission to summon public officers, including the police, to testify before it.

In my humble opinion, it is time for Suhakam to exercise its legal and constitutional power to summon the Inspector-General of police (IGP) Norain Mai to appear before it and explain in detail what the 'molotov cocktails', 'grenade launchers', 'Jihad gang' and 'militant students' is all about.

The police chief should not be immune to normal law. Suhakam has been given the IGP too much 'face'. It is time for Suhakam to apply civilized law on the police.

If the IGP fails or rejects to obey the order, Suhakam should urge for his sacking. Norian Mai is not the master of the people. On the contrary, it is the people who are his boss. And bosses have the power to hire and fire.
