There have been many views expressed about the 'silent majority', including one reader telling them to shut up.

I consider myself as one of the 'silent majority'. The Internal Security Act (ISA) has been part of Malaysia's law since independence. Every five years, the Barisan Nasional government goes to the poll to seek the rakyat 's mandate and it has been given the mandate ever since independence.

Who are the rakyat who gave the present government the mandate? Is it the silent majority, who prefer to express whatever they have or want to say in the form of votes?

Yes, the present government was selected by the silent majority who knows what is best for them. And in a democratic state, the minority should follow the majority.

There is no need for anybody to tell the silent majority to speak up. I am sure under our laws, the freedom to remain silent is also a freedom guaranteed under the constitution.

I am sure, most of the silent majority like me prefer to remain silent for the time being, but we will definitely 'speak up' during election time.
